The Abilene Christian Women invite all women to  the monthly Coffee on Thursday, June 7, 2018, from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. at the Elks Club, 417 NW 4th St.  The theme for June is “Cute as a Button.” All women will want to join us as we learn that buttons can be “love tokens,” are collectible and can be used in many creative and decorative ways. The interesting and inspiring speakers, tasty treats, unique and attractive decorations, as well as the music of our local talent  make this event a highlight of the month for attendees.

The Button Lady, Jamie Spikes from Manhattan, KS is the June Special Feature Speaker.  She is shown here wearing a sample of her exceptional button jewelry.  Jamie has been collecting buttons and creating button jewelry and embellishments for clothing for over 25 years.  She will encourage us to “do something with your buttons.”  When we get them out of cans, boxes, jars, and baskets, buttons can be used for unique and interesting decorations as well as storytelling.  Her lovely button collection will adorn the tables at the coffee and her handmade jewelry will be for sale after the meeting.  Jamie is semi-retired after 50 years of  practice as a PhD nurse.  Presently, she is serving as a volunteer parish nurse at her local church and involved in international parish nursing.

Jan Smith  from Olathe, KS is the Speaker for June.  Jan is an Interior Designer.  Everyone will enjoy hearing her humorous and hair-raising experiences as the wife of a funeral director included in her talk “If the Shoe Fits.”  Jan’s witty humor is woven throughout her presentation on handling the challenges of  life.

The Gathering Music will be played by pianist, RoseAnn Purdue from Abilene, KS.  Special Music will be vocal duets  sung by Jean and Arnie Boyd from Chapman, KS.

The cost for this event is $5.  Make reservations or cancellations for this meeting  by sending an email to or calling Carolyn Hoover at (785) 263-4285 by Saturday, June 2nd.
