The Abilene Christian Women’s Club Coffee is Thursday, July 6th, 2017, from 9:30 – 11:15 a.m. at the Elks Club, 417 NW 4th St. The theme for July is “Let Freedom Ring!” All women are invited to this monthly event and encouraged to wear red, white and blue. This is an opportunity to connect with friends and make new acquaintances. The speakers are interesting and inspiring. Local talent presents music. We all enjoy the home baked refreshments and lovely table decorations. Door prizes are awarded.
The Special Feature for the month of July is Kaitlin Larson from Solomon, Kansas. Kaitlin, a 17-year-old home schooled student is the Voice of Democracy Essay Contest Winner for the State of Kansas. The VFW sponsors this annual competition. Kaitlyn entered her writing this year at the General Dwight D. Eisenhower Post 3279 here in Abilene. The title of her essay was “My Responsibility to America.” She had to both write and then record her essay as a speech. She won at the local level, then the district level and finally competed with high school students from throughout the state of Kansas. She won statewide and then represented Kansas in the national competition in Washington D.C. in February. Kaitlin will present her winning speech and then tell about her experiences representing the state of Kansas in our nation’s capital.
Rae Kary Staab from Mayetta, Kansas is the Speaker for the July coffee. She grew up on a farm in South Dakota. Rae has a degree in Geological Engineering. She is the mother of 2 daughters and has a grandson. In her talk, Rae will share how she overcame fear during several powerful “storms” in her life and achieved personal peace.
The Gathering Music will be played by Peggy Meuli from Hope, KS. A vocal trio comprised of Kaitlin Larson and her sisters, Kassie and Kristen will sing for the program at the July Coffee.
