M is for the million things she gave us.” Come join the Abilene Christian Women’s Connection at the Thursday, May 2, 2019 Coffee and participate in the celebration of mothers. “Bouquets for MOM” is the theme this month. This event is held at the Elks Club, 417 NW 4th St. from 9:30-11:15 a.m. You can connect with familiar friends, make new acquaintances, hear interesting and inspiring speakers, see beautiful decorations, eat delicious refreshments and be cheered by harmonious music.
Phyllis Cheney of Phyllis’ Flowers and More, in Chapman, Kansas will be the Special Feature Speaker at the May Coffee. She was scheduled to present the Special Feature at the February Coffee which was cancelled due to a winter storm. As our yards and gardens are blooming with the beauty of spring flowers, Phyllis will demonstrate how we can bring some of those flowers inside to make lovely floral arrangements. A very fortunate attendee at the coffee will win a gorgeous array of flowers arranged by Phyllis as a door prize!
Kaitlin Larson from Solomon, Kansas, will play the Gathering Music before the Coffee begins. She is shown on the far right in the picture here with her sisters and brother. The four siblings will sing the Special Music during the Coffee. Kaitlin is a sophomore at Bob Jones University and is taking online classes for a degree in elementary education. She is working as a shift leader at Chick-Fil-A. Kirsten is a senior in high school planning to attend Bob Jones University in the fall with a major in Health Sciences. She likes to draw and play the piano. Kassandra is in 9th grade. She enjoys outdoor activities including running, hiking, and swimming. She loves being around children and does a lot of babysitting. Caleb is in 4th grade. He loves sports, particularly soccer and basketball. He is a bookworm! The Larson siblings have been singing together as long as they can remember. They have been performing their melodious 4-part harmony in public for about 5 years. All of them play the piano.
Kris Driskill from Belton, Missouri will be the Speaker for the May Coffee. Kris was adopted at birth. She married her high school sweetheart. She is a mother and grandmother and is self-employed. She is also a Regional Administrator for Stonecroft Ministries and has been a speaker since 1983. She enjoys gardening, decorating, and time with family and friends. In her talk, Kris shares how she, as a former “director of the universe” was able to give up control and live to tell about it.
