Abilene Christian Women’s Club Coffee
The Abilene Christian Women’s Club Coffee is Thursday, June 1, 2017, from 9:30 – 11:15 a.m. at the Elks Club, 417 NW 4th St. The theme for June is “Here Comes Summer!” We invite all women to this monthly event. The monthly coffee is an opportunity to connect with friends and make new acquaintances. We learn from and are inspired by speakers. Local talent presents music. We all enjoy the home baked refreshments and lovely table decorations. Door prizes are awarded.
The Special Feature for the month of June is Sondra Messenger. Sondra will speak about the traditional craft of wheat weaving. In 1987, Ms. Messenger was instrumental in the establishment of The National Association of Wheat Weavers and served as their first president. The group continues to this day with a membership of over 190. She learned wheat weaving in the 1980’s at the Kingman County Extension. Sondra’s talk will include a history of wheat weaving, the type of straw needed and process of collecting the straw. She is making the centerpiece decorations for the tables at the coffee and will also have samples of her work on display.
Tanya Burk from Thayer, Kansas is the Speaker for the May coffee. If you have at times felt that you needed to change but could never quite get your life right, you will find Tanya’s talk on “The Gift of Transformation” most encouraging. Tanya battled an eating disorder to become a personal trainer, business owner, wife and mom. Her story of how she accomplished lasting transformation and changed the heritage of her family is truly inspiring.
The Gathering Music will be played by guitarist, Carly Graefe from Abilene. Carly will also sing and play her guitar for the Special Music.
The cost for this event is $5. Make reservations or cancellations for this meeting by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or calling Carolyn Hoover at (785) 263-4285 by Saturday, May 27th.
